“Save Our World!” Victoria Primary School Take Composting Action
“Our children understand sustainable gardening practices, from soil preparation to planting and harvesting. The pupils have not only learned about growing food but have also developed a sense of pride in contributing to a shared green space that benefits everyone.”
Together with our Green Learning Coordinator, Hannah, Victoria Primary School has been taking positive action against climate change by launching green initiatives in the Meadows - showing how local schools and young people can pave the way towards a greener future.
The school have developed a community garden where residents can grow their own herbs and flowers, while also learning about composting and recycling. The goal? To combat climate change—because every action, no matter how big or small, makes a difference.
Inspired by their newfound knowledge of composting’s amazing benefits— such as reducing methane emissions, enriching soil health, and reducing food waste—the school expressed their eagerness to set up their very own composting bins for the school’s community garden.
Green Meadows’ Community Composting, with sites at Queens Walk Recreation Ground and Memorial Gardens, were thrilled to expand with a third location thanks to Victoria’s support. Already, over 70 households are proudly saving food waste from landfill, and with more sites to come, the community’s positive impact will grow even further.
In early April 2025, we hosted two workshops where residents built three new compost bins for the school.
A big thank you to everyone who got stuck in!
We’re thrilled to see the enthusiasm grow, so keep your eyes peeled for updates once the compost boxes are up, running and composting away.
